Francisco Liriano threw just 28 pitches in 2+ innings, and said he heard a “pop” in his elbow. He should be done for the season. Matt Garza came in and did nicely, throwing 5.2 innings. He did give up 8 hits, but only 1 run (debatable) and struck out 4.
Apparently there was a bad call at second base where the runner should have been out (for the A’s) but he was called safe. A ground-rule double followed, scoring the only run of the game. Also apparently, Justin Morneau made a bad baserunning error that could have led to a Twins’ run.
In some good news, Detroit lost as well, but Chicago won.

I watched the game Frymaster. You’re right on both counts. The run the A’s scored was given to them by the ump. I remember saying, I hope this game doesn’t end up 1-0 because if so, it will have been decided by the umps, not the teams. I guess I have to be content with the fact that we will have an obvious play go our way soon. These calls seem to even themselves out. I just wish whole games were not decided on them. Garza stepped in for Liriano like the pro he is. He earned his starting rotation spot.

0-1 loss, we’ll take it… the bats may not have been there, but clearly the pitching still is. There were high hopes Liriano would be back and give the boys a boost…too bad. Still there’s no doubt this team is hunting down a streak of Tigers!
