Happy New Year! Sorry I couldn’t post on Monday, although there wasn’t much that was missed. Almost literally, there is nothing going on in the baseball world right now. There are a couple of things that I’ll talk about, though.

First off, cornerback Darrent Williams of the Denver Broncos was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting that happened around 2 AM on the first day of the new year. He was a great player, just in his 2nd year with a promising future. R.I.P., Darrent.

In ex-Twin-related news, former 2B Luis “I play cards instead of taking batting practice” Rivas was signed by the AL Central’s own Cleveland Indians. It’s only a minor league deal, though.

Also, it’s possible that Randy “Big Unit” Johnson will be traded back to his old team, the Arizona Diamondbacks. It’s reported that New York wants some young pitchers, and the D-Backs want the Yanks to pick up some of Johnson’s hefty $16 million-a-year contract.
