Justin Morneau signs an extension, some minor stars sign with teams, and an extension with Joe Mauer could happen very soon.

Morneau signed a 1-year, $4.5 million deal on Friday evening. Slurpee expert Nick Punto signed a 2-year, $4.2 million contract, and Lew Ford will receive $985,000 in 2007. Juan Rincon also signed for a 1-year, $2 million deal.

It’s rumored from the Pioneer Press that the Twins are also in talks with Mauer, trying to sign him to a 4-year, $33 million deal. If Mauer’s numbers in the next seasons mimic his ’06 numbers, that type of price would be a steal for a franchise player like Joe.

Former Twin close Eddie Guardado will enter Cincinnati’s Spring Training with only a minor league deal under his belt. This could work out great for the Reds, if Guardado continues to have a good career as a closer.

NL Batting Champion Freddy Sanchez has re-signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He will be paid $2.75 million for one year.
