Due to a busy weekend and a cold, only a couple items for you all today.

First off, the big one: Joe Mauer has signed a 4-year, $33 million deal with the Twins, making his final year of the contract 2010, the same year the new stadium is scheduled to be opened. There seems to be a ton of problems at the moment, though.

It was also heard on KFAN radio on Friday that Johan Santana said he’s building a house here in Minnesota and wants to retire a Twin, and said he would take $14-$16 million a year as a home-town discount. That would be incredible for the organization, and they need to start scouring the streets for pennies if Pohlad doesn’t pony up.
