Ramon Ortiz gave up four 1st-inning runs on 3 singles, a double, and a walk (yes, he walked in a run) and would later give up another run for a total of 5 given up in his 6 innings of work. He gave up 6 hits, walked 3, and only struck out one.
Glen Perkins did a decent job relieving him, giving up just 1 run on 3 straight singles over 2 innings of long relief. He also walked a guy and struck out a guy.
Despite getting the first two batters on via walks in the 9th, the Twins couldn’t advance them to prolong (or win) the game.
The team only got 6 hits, and not surprisingly they were all singles. Justin Morneau had a chance to tie it when there were 2 runners on, but he was struck out on three sliders down and away. It was a very bad at bat because he didn’t swing like he was in control, he swung like he was just trying to defend the plate.
The Twins pitch Carlos Silva today for a noon game. I’m hoping he has a great pitching day because I feel that our offense is starting to get things clicking.
