Starter Ramon Ortiz lasted just 1 inning, allowing 7 hits and 6 runs plus a walk. One of those hits was a 3-run homer. Glen Perkins came into the game in the 2nd and threw 2 innings, but allowed 4 hits and 3 runs. He also walked and struck out 2. Matt Guerrier pitched 2 solid innings, allowing just a hit and striking out 2. Jesse Crain had problems, though. A Nick Punto fielding error helped 6 unearned runs score on 4 hits. Apparently that’s the least of Jesse’s problems, though. Recurring shoulder soreness means he’s likely to head to the DL. I think that this, paired with Sidney Ponson gone and Ramon Ortiz starting to pitch like he was expected to, look for Scott Baker to get called up soon. It will be Scott because he’s doing the best in AAA right now, and the Twins have said that he’s first on their list of people to call up. It’s true, though; Kevin Slowey and Matt Garza need more time in AAA before they can try and pitch successfully with the big club.

The offense scored 7 runs, which normally would have been enough to win. Michael Cuddyer had a 2-run homer in the first, and Justin Morneau hit 2 solo shots on his own. Jason Kubel added his first home run of the season in the 8th. Garrett Jones was 1-for-3 in his MLB debut.

The game is at 6 PM again and we’ll see Carlos Silva pitch against C.C. Sabathia.
