Johan Santana had a great game, throwing 7 innings and giving up just 2 runs. He hadn’t allowed any runs until the 7th when he gave up 2 solo homers back-to-back. He’s now 4-4 on the season with 2 Quality Losses (happening when a pitcher goes at least 6 innings giving up 3 earned runs or less and still gets the loss), however I feel that a lot of Quality Losses will be on Twins pitching this season.
Justin Morneau hit a double, and Luis Castillo, Michael Cuddyer, and Nick Punto each had singles, but that was the extent of the Twins’ hitting. Punto also had a stolen base.
It appears that Scott Baker will be the one to get the start on Saturday. He’s pitched pretty good in AAA this year, his best start being an 8-inning outing where he allowed only 2 hits, no runs, and struck out 8. On the season he’s 3-2 with a 2.95 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 39 and 2/3 innings as a starter. He did a 3-inning stint as a reliever and gave up 2 runs. Edit: According to the Pioneer Press, he will be called up to start on Saturday and will not be sent back down right away, but rather will become the 5th starter, regardless of his performance tomorrow.
