The bats were silent while the pitching was bad and the Twins’ injury woes keep piling on as they’ve lost 10 of their last 13 games. Jesse Crain is likely done for the season after finding out he has a torn rotator cuff and a torn labrum; the same thing Brad Radke had last season. AAA reliever Julio DePaula was called up yesterday to replace Crain, but it appears that DePaula will move into the long relief role while Matt Guerrier will move into higher-pressure situations, like the ones Crain went in to.
At least Carlos Silva gave us 6 innings yesterday. He allowed 7 hits and 5 runs. He walked 3 and also struck out 2. Dennys Reyes continues to be the exact opposite of last year’s Denny, recording just an out while allowing 1 hit, 2 walks, and 2 runs to score.
The Twins had a scoring chance in the first when Jason Bartlett hit a 1-out double, but Michael Cuddyer grounded out to third and Justin Morneau struck out.
It just isn’t fun to watch when we’re practically out of the game after the first couple innings. The pitching used to lose in close games, but now it appears that they’ve become friends with the hitting and stopped working altogether. Johan Santana takes the mound tonight, and I hope our bats can give him 4 or 5 runs to work with. The game starts at 11:05 though, and I don’t know if it’s televised.
