Between Bert Blyleven‘s bald head, Scott Baker‘s 2-run performance, and solid middle-inning hitting, the Twins got to one of the Mets’ best starters and found a way to win the series against the NL East leaders. To be fair, the Mets were 3-12 heading into the series and had lost 5 series in a row (that’s now 6 to all New Yorkers out there, hah hah hah). Baker also had 3 strikeouts and no walks.

Down 2-1 entering the 5th, Torii Hunter thought it would be best if he gave us the lead with a 2-run homer, his 15th of the year. Mike Redmond pinch-hit for Baker in the 6th and drove in Lew Ford with a single. Red Dog was replaced by Jason Tyner as a pinch-runner. Luis Castillo walked and then Joe Mauer drove both of them in with a double to center field, giving us a 6-2 lead that would stay for the rest of the game.

The Twins had 3 stolen bases, one by Mauer, Tyner, and Ford.

With no game today, I promise to write about the New Britain Rock Cats’ season so far for you all to read tomorrow.

The team travels to Florida for a 3-game series and then back home for just 4 games, all against the Toronto Blue Jays.
